Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is a DNS report?
A. A DNS report contains a list of every domain name that exists in the zone file for a specific TLD and name server as well as DNS changes (newly added and deleted domain names). For example, to see all domain names which reside on the Microsoft DNS and monitor for new additions and deletions you would monitor the Microsoft DNS server (MSFT.NET).
Q. Is there a domain limit for the reports?
A. No! Unlike our competitors we do not limit the amount
of domains returned in a report. This means that our reports can include
anywhere from zero to tens of millions of domains.
Q. What is the format of the reports?
A. Reports are zipped and include a text file containing
one domain per line.
Q. What time are the reports updated?
A. All DNS monitoring requests are processed nightly starting
at 12:00 AM US Central time. DNS servers entered into the system after midnight
still get processed the same day using the zone file downloaded at midnight.
It may take up to two hours for the reports to display so expect all reports
to finalize by 02:00 AM USC.
Q. What is the format of the reports?
A. Reports are zipped and include a text file containing
one domain per line.
Q. Is the service free or subscription based?
A. The service is subscription based but a 3 day free trial is included for all newly registered users.
Q. Why is the service paid?
A. Because a lot of processing power and bandwidth is required to operate it.
Q. If I cancel during the 3 day trial will I still be billed?
A. No, you will not be charged if you cancel before the 3 day trial is over.
Q. Can I cancel the service at any time?
A. Yes, you may cancel your subscription at any time (at PayPal.com) and the cancelation will automatically be applied to your account on our system. Your account will remain active until the next billing cycle.
Q. What form of payment do you accept??
A. We currently accept payment via PayPal subscriptions only.
Q. Why are the reports compressed?
A. Some reports are several hundred megabytes and contain
millions of domains and in most cases downloading a text file of that size
would crash the browser. Furthermore, text files compress to very small
sizes saving download time and bandwidth.
Q. How often are the reports updated?
A. We download zone files once per day and update all reports
once per day.
Q. What does the "New Additions" column mean?
A. The new additions column shows the number of domains added
to the specified DNS between the report date and the previous day. This
usually includes newly registered domains or domains transfered to that
DNS.
Q. What does the "New Deletions" column mean?
A. The new deletions column shows the number of domains deleted
from the specified DNS between the report date and the previous day. This
usually includes newly deleted domains or domains transfered out of that
DNS.
Q. What does the "Total Active" column mean?
A. The total active column shows the total number of domains
currently residing in the DNS for the specified dns server and TLD.
